The Netherlands-based photographer Roman Robroek recently traveled to a splendid castle in Italy. The Castello di Sammezzano is a show-stopper, a jaw-dropper, an electrifyingly beautiful Moorish castle that was built over 4 centuries ago in 1605.
Today it is the object of an auction, its destiny unsure. The construction has been looked after by volunteers for decades. Its ceilings and floors are ornamented with stunning mosaics. Colorful stained-glass windows beautify all the rooms. The castle, hidden away in the Tuscan hills of Northern Italy, is open to the public on guided visits.
