8 Deadly Selfies Taken Just Moments Before Tragedy Struck

2. 17-Year-Old Gets Electrocuted, Falls From Bridge Trying to Take Selfie

Xenia Ignatyeva

To impress her friends, daredevil Russian girl, Xenia Ignatyeva, took a selfie from a bridge 28 feet off the ground in the Russian city of Saint Petersburg. The 17 year old lost her balance and as she fell, she attempted to grab a high voltage cable to keep from hitting the concrete below. Despite being hit with 1,500 volts of electricity, police believe Xenia, who was due to turn 18 the following month, was alive when she hit the ground.

Xenia’s pal, Oksana Zhankova, also 17, was apparently paralysed with shock at seeing her friend fall to her death and was found crouching beside the body when police arrived.

Rooftopping Selfie

Note: Many websites have incorrectly used the photo above to reference this news story. The girl pictured is in fact a different person by the name of Angela Nikolau, and is very much alive. She frequently features in Kirill Oreshkin’s rooftopping photos.
