Ferdinand Puentes and eight others, including the pilot, were aboard the Makani Kai Air Cessna when its engine quit on December 11, 2013. One person was killed. In the middle of the Pacific Ocean, wearing a bright yellow life preserver and clutching onto a seat cushion, he took a selfie, the tail of the sinking aircraft behind him.
